Today's Topic - People

The bags are unpacked. Some laundry is done. I still have a few things to take care of that are on the table. I'll do those tomorrow. But, that doesn't mean that the posts of Camp are done. Regular readers will just have to put up posts and pictures this week of camp.

Janine must be doing a mini workshop, since Meg is sitting in Janines's seat up front.

Linda with the famous green sweater. A piece of history in her hands.

And here is Sandy, strolling through the shop.

Char taking a little rest in "our" living room.

Nancy and her sheep.

Some intense knitting in the evening in the classroom. Look at all those sweaters in the background knitted by EZ and Meg and worn by them as well...how cool is that!

Taking a little break during the day.

Elizabeth gets some pointers from Cheryl on spinning. Right before I got a little taste of the drop spindle.

Amy, manning the camera and Janine ready to do a demo.

Tomorrow...some contest entries.

Knit Camp - Day 3 Pretty Darn Proud

I placed 2nd out of 29 in the popular vote for the camp contest. The contest topic was the 100th anniversary of Elizabeth's birthday.

EZ was very mathmatical, so I chose to knit my own coral reef with knitted hyperbolic planes. And my little old lady (aka me in about 10-15 years)in her bikini sits in her chair knitting the coral reef.

Camp is all but over except for breakfast later this morning. Then we're off for home....can't believe it is over, can't wait for next year, can't wait to get home and really digest everything!

Next week, you will just have to suffer through the countless photos I've taken of camp while I try to show you just how much fun we had.

Knit Camp - Day 2

Making yarn? I cannot believe I did this....preface to the story, about 10 years ago, I went to my first camp. All those around me were knitting shawls. It wasn't my thing, I didn't think it ever would be and I probably voiced my opinion that I would never knit want and probably would never wear one.

Fast forward 10 years later, I have several that I want to knit, own just one, but really wish I had more.

So it would be no surprise that about a week ago, I said there was no way I would ever spin! Okay, I'm eating those words. Bad Cheryl Oberle enticed me, helped me by picking out the right spindle and bought fiber for us newbies to try. She is a gem and such a giving lady.

My new spindle and my very first yarn. Yep, its probably a heavy worsted weight, but I am pretty proud of it at this time.

Nope, I'm not very fast, nor can I say I really have the hang of it yet, but, there is hope.

And of course, with a spindle there must be fiber. The cream is what Cheryl gave me and the other is what I bought from Briar Rose Fibers. I'm saving it for when I get good, so I can maybe knit a pair of sox from it.

There was again another wonderful day at camp with workshops (I learned what to do for a drop stitch when it is next to the cast on), there was some fantastic show and tell that you will see in the next few days after I get home, Meg showed some of the sweaters that will be in the garter stitch book to be released at a later date, and there were some great vendors at the market today.

Only one more day left for official camp, how quick the time flys and how many new friends are being made. What a great weekend.

Knit OMG Camp - Day 1

What a first day! This is just a smattering of what went on yesterday. You would never know from the pictures below and what is on the disk that I recently completed a photography class. But, I think you will get the drift of just how cool this stuff is. And the people, they are just unbelievable. Thats not very eloquent, but all the same.

Last night, Cheryl Oberle let me/semi taught me how to spin with a drop spindle...ok, it was all of 10 minutes, but hopefully, today we can get one for me, and she is going to help me learn a little more! Don't ever say never!!

BoxTop Done

Not the greatest of pictures, but after almost a year, the Box Top Jacket from Cheryl Oberle's book Knitted Jacket is done.

The Show and Tell is ready. The contest entry just needs to be assembled once I get to camp.

Now, if I could just decide what to take to knit, what I possibly want to start knitting, and what I should be knitting.....oy, the decisions a Camper must make.

Thank God we are traveling by car! I'd never make it by flying!

Taking Back The Knit

For the last couple of weeks I have been trying to knit on a couple of projects for Show and Tell. One, the Green Sweater is just not going to make the cut. Despite writing notes on the first sleeve, the second one is just not coming out right. I've ripped it back twice and I am not doing it again. It's went to the "Pile".

The "Pile" is one step away from the trash. Those things that are in the pile are vegging for possible rip out and reuse should I knit the last bit of yarn that I have in the Yarn Room and absolutely no money to buy new. (like that is ever going to happen)

Another project for camp is the Box Top Jacket. It is not going to the "Pile", but rather to my mother-in-law or will wait for me to lose the hips that I thought would have been whittled down by now when I started it a year ago. It's sitting on the table drying, from it's second blocking. The first blocking attempt, I tried stretching it a bit to much at the bottom with the hopes to add a little hip room and managed instead to pull a couple of places out of shape and had to re-blocked.

The Box Top has been a tough knit. The yarn is thick and does not flow in the round as well as others do. I still have the second sleeve to finish half way down and will try to get that done tomorrow. Believe me, you don't want to knit the hefty yarn right after nail day, which is Wednesday.

So, after a couple of weeks of not the greatest knitting, I've decided to take back my knitting. What I have been doing lately is following the leader on my knitting. I see or hear an idea and off I go to knit it without a whole lot of thought. I've been knitting what I think others might like rather than what I want to knit!

I need to start knitting sweaters that are flattering to me, in colors that I like and will work with my wardrobe, both work and casual. I need to knit what I WANT to knit, not what everyone else in blogdom or camp is knitting. I need to spend more time knitting out of my stash rather than adding to it with the latest crazy yarn that I see. I need to be not so impulsive. I need to start completing some of all those things that are on needles.....quite simply I am taking back the knit.

Ahhh, that feels good. Tomorrow is a new day!

Monday Monday

Mondays are the start of my week. I start my week of Weight Watchers on Mondays, usually having to jump start myself back in after taking the weekend off. Don't know why I do that, but it seems like starting with lunch on Friday it just spirals out of hand and come Sunday night I start thinking it is time to begin again.

It is going to be real tough this week, since camp starts on Thursday and they feed us well and I eat great dinners...just not ones that are overly healthy for me. It starts on our travel up. Lunch is a fantastic reuben with those waffle fries. I can see it now in my dreams.

On Mondays, I, also start a new week of the Couch to 5K running program. I told my hair dresser last week, that this is it for me. Either I develop a running program or give it up, no more starting over with it. I did really well, up until this last week, too much camp knitting superseded the running program.

I was telling my friend Sue about the problem with fitting it in during camp. Since while I camp, I stay up late and get up early to knit, it's hard to fit exercise in. Sue helped with a plan. I can still get up early, but before I can put a knitting needle in my had I have to either go out and do the walk/run in the park thing, or get on the treadmill, if I can find it! I am packing my running shoes and will report how that goes....do not laugh Linda and Char!

And on Mondays, I make a list of what I have to do for the week. Actually, this week, I made it starting yesterday. I love lists and ticking them off. So far I'm right on with my list for getting ready for camp.

The best part of this Monday....I'm not working the rest of this week. It leaves room for knitting on Tuesday at the shop, something I hardly ever get to do.

Thought For Today

Knit what you want and what you like. Don't knit on something you don't want to be knitting on. You don't have to knit what everybody else is knitting...be yourself!

Which means if I want only Caribe Blue in knitting wardrobe it's okay!
