Shutting Off The Computer

I am shutting it off and keeping it off today. I spent all of last night, surfing different things and patterns and yarns....and picked it back up this morning two hours ago.

Found the information I was looking for today.

Now, thats it! I'm going to knit on the Mondo Cable Pulli and see if I can't get it finished and blocking by tonight. Going to jump on the treadmill for at leat 10 minutes this morning. Shower and then do laundry and KNIT!!!

No computer, no facebook, no Ravelry.

Maybe the IPod tonight after I have completed my tasks for the day.

Yarn Weights

We had the discussion today about what weight of a yarn Aran is. I thought it was a little finer than worsted. Now, I'm not so sure. I bought a book today that has three methods of knitting socks. In the back, it lists yarns by weights. I know there are alot of books out there who have the same sort of charts, but here's what this one says:

Dk, Light Worsted

Worsted, Afghan, Aran

I guess the only true way to find out is to do a gauge swatch.

Winter Knitting 2011

I know I'm rushing it, but I am looking forward to Spring, more this year than others....don't know why. Normally, I just deal with the weather, but this year, I really am looking forward to green grass and trees and warmer weather.

As a knitter, you have to look forward, since it does take a little time to knit a sweater. Thats why this year, I am really giving an effort to be ready to wear the spring sweaters when the weather hits, not to be working on them.

The good thing is that I have some spring yarns in the yarn room that I can use for the start of the season. It's a good thing, because I am not seeing spring yarns yet in the lys. Even though, it is just the end of February, I think the lys could take a point from the regular retail shops...but thats another story.

Anyway, with that said, I've made a little list and a thought plan. My plan is to by the end of February, be moving onto Spring Knitting. In order to be doing that, I need to have a couple of sweaters finished:

The Eco Duo Mondo Cable Pulli --I am hoping for this one to be done and blocking by the end of the weekend

The Mushishi Top Down Cardigan

The Orange Remix

Mittens for my new scarf that I blogged about last weekend

And maybe from the leftovers of the Eco Duo, some mittens and Caliormetry headband

Stay tuned.

What Is Knitting In This Post

Around Christmas time, a friend at work told me about this new place that had opened up out at Grand Prairie. Charming Charlie. I really didn't realize what kind of place it was, but the subject came up yesterday at knitting and the key word there was watches.

Now, I'm not really a watch collector, but I have had my eyeballs on a caribe blue one online and was just too cheap to buy it and have it shipped here, since with my skinny wrists (one of two body parts on me that are thin), I decided to go out on my way home.

It reminds me of Fluff, but on a much grander scale. I had to pass through Hallmark on my way in and out so I checked out the new Vera colors in person. I can live without any of them for now.

You can see partly why. They had this cute little wallet and a good price and just the watch that I was looking for and it fits rather well. Did I stop? No, had to check the rest of the shop out....color, can you say lots of color.

At one time I had a tote in my hand out of Caribe Blue fake alligator like, but decided I REALLY didn't need it. Wasn't I good?

I've been doing a little brown this winter season and so this cashmere scarf came into view. I did not realize that it was cashmere until I was at the checkout and the gal told me it was now 14.97. So

Then of course, had to go back and get a watch for fun!

And now for the knitting content. Technically, we had knitting content at the start because this is where the thought of going to Charming Charlie's came into my radar.

Now, last night I got to thinking I need some mittens to go with my new scarf and these are what I am kind of toying with. Using both the green and brown to do the cover mittens fron the IW Holiday Issue. Just deciding now if it is to be the green of the KnitPicks yarn or the green alpaca? Maybe, it should be stripe mittens like the scarf, thats this mornings thought? And throw a little cream alpaca in there too....now I'm thinking.

I Should Have Went To Bed

But no, I thought I'd do a little catch up on Ravelry....happended upon a post by Diane Soucy, creator of Knitting Pure and Simple, where she was announcing that some of her patterns would now be available for download through patternfish.com

Of course, I went and had to check it out. Bought two new patterns--

What can I say? Another time sucker!

Thank You MLK

Or maybe, it's thank you Mother of MLK!

Its 9:15 a.m. I've done a little work, had breakfast, now I am going to shower.

Then, I'm going to sit in my chair, watch the weather (we are supposed to have some freezing rain today), drink some coffee and knit on my Mondo Cable Pulli. I ripped it back last night and now I am going to do some double decreases through the waist and then just a couple of increases in the hip area. Lengthen it a couple of inches and do a slightly different rib.

Oh and watch some old game shows on GSN. And when there is nothing to watch, I'm going to catch up on some knitting podcasts.

It's a holiday!

Interesting

The difference between a flash and a no flash picture
The difference between what the pattern is and what the finished project is

To the tape measure is where I am going to rip this Mondo Cable Pulli back to. I'm going to insert some shaping through the waist (where I normally would have) and motor on to the hem.

When I get to the hem, I'm going to change the rib from the knit 5 purl 1 to something like knit 4 purl 2. I think that might make that ever so slight flip at the end go away. Even though I steamed it pretty heavy, it is flirting with wanting to flip back. I don't need any help with the bulk there!

Just A Quick Knit

And I have the perfect turtleneck to wear it with. It was a quick knit, relatively, when you stick with the knitting of it. 3 skeins of Dune and a size 13 needle. Done and Check!

Now, to rip back the Mondo Cable Pulli.

It's A Three Day Weekend!

Thank you Martin Luther...actually for me it turned into a four day weekend. Not because I wanted it to be, but because my body decided it wanted to be. I'm thinkin this getting older stuff is for the birds...Life was much easier when I was young.

Anyway, enough of that talk. I'm going to spend the next three days doing what I want and love. Knitting. Well, heck yes, there will be some work, but only when I want to.

The Magic Number

Wouldn't I just love to do 12 projects in 12 months? Ideally, it would be nice to do 12 sweaters in 12 months. Or use 12 stash yarns up in 12 months.

The Veronica Pullover pattern pictured here is actually knit in pieces but I am knitting it in the round...I dislike seaming so whenever possible I convert to knitting in the round. It, also, does not have any shaping in the waist and after finishing the Mondo Cable Pulli, I definitely have to remember to do that in my sweaters.

I knew that, but somehow, knitted blindly on it. Might need to fix that so I can't say at this time that it is definitely finished.

My Mantra For The New Year

Not doing a resolution, just have a mantra for the New Year. No Stress, No Pressure in work, in life and in knitting. Lets see how long that lasts since today is the first day back to work. My boss is out this week, so at least he shouldn't be bringing me anything strange to work on. I should have a week before that happens.

A friend of mine gifted me with this cool Vera Bradley notebook to keep my project notes in for 2011. Isn't this cool? So much better than my generic notebook.

Tomorrow - the 2010 wrap up of knitting.

She's On A Roll

Just bear with me for a few days! Normally, the blog wishes everyone a happy new year and then moves on. Unfortunately, thats not the case this year. This year, I'm going to take a few days and keep the start of the new year going for awhile.

Yesterday, I spent a really nice time at Norma's Annual New Year's Open House. I meant to take pictures to post, but didn't think about it until I was on my way home. Norma feeds us and we sit around and knit or cross stitch and we rehash our holiday experiences and just have a fantastic time!

Today, I'm doing laundry and gearing myself up for going back to work tomorrow.

I have to say I am kind of ready to go back to work! I've been off since Christmas Eve and alot of the time has been spent knitting. I wish I could say I finished something, but I am nearing the end of a sweater that I have been knitting on, and I hope to finish the 2nd sleeve tomorrow and try it on again. I am thinking that it might be a tad too big, and that I might have to rip the body back just a bit, but I'll wait and make that decision on Thursday, once I get a chance to get other opinions.

Tomorrow, it's back to work. I feel pretty relaxed and my motto for this new year is No Stress, No Pressure in life, in work and in knitting!

By the way, did you all realize that yesterday was 1/1/11....and that this year the day after my birthday will be 11/11/11?! We will have to make a special note when it is 11:11 am or pm on 11/11/11.
